Total employees
Total employees are calculated daily by using an internal webpage employee search to get the number of current employees, which is backed by HRMS data.
AlwaysOn VPN
WSDOT’s main remote access solution for agency portable devices running Microsoft Windows. When the device is powered on and has an Internet connection, it will automatically connect to the WSDOT network even if no user is currently logged on. Most network traffic (except for some Office365 services) is routed back to the WSDOT network before reaching the Internet to protect the remote agency devices, allow usage of internal agency services (e.g. WSDOT’s Intranet website), and gain access to internal agency network connections (e.g. FHWA).
AnyConnect VPN
WSDOT’s auxiliary remote access service for agency portable devices that run operating systems other than Microsoft Windows (e.g. iPADs) or for users with unique access requirements (e.g. they connect to other non-WSDOT networks such as a tolling or signal network). This access method allows the user to connect and disconnect to the WSDOT network as needed by manually launching a VPN client. As with AlwaysOn, most network traffic is routed back to the WSDOT network. WSDOT must pay for licensing to use this remote access option.
Citrix
A WSDOT remote access service allowing external users to control a virtual desktop computer or single application (e.g. Microsoft Edge web browser) on the WSDOT network. Users can leverage non-WSDOT devcies (e.g. their personal computer) and a web browser with a Citrix client installed, for gaining access to the agency network. Users visit the WSDOT Citrix website (https://remoteoffice.wsdot.wa.gov/) to authenticate and gain access. To protect the agency from malware, files transfers between the external device and WSDOT virtual desktop are blocked. WSDOT must pay for licensing to use this remote access option.
Remote Desktop Gateway (RDG)
An agency remote access service that allows external users to control a physical desktop located on the WSDOT network. Users connect with a non-WSDOT device using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) application to to remotely control the WSDOT device; typically the user’s workstation in their office. The user may then use the remote workstation as if they were sitting at the local keyboard and mouse, including access to internal agency resources. This remote access method works well for heavy network users who have limited home Internet connetions, but requires a physical desktop at the office.
