<idAbs>

This GIS data shows the locations of WSDOT road crossings, including culverts, dams, bridges, and fishways.The GIS data contains attributes identifying location information in latitude and longitude, as well as state plane coordinates and state route and milepost. Additional attributes include indicators for fish use, barrier status, and fish species. It is a subset of data compiled and extracted from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) Fish Passage and Diversion Screening Inventory (FPDSI) database. It includes data compiled from several WDFW and non-WDFW fish passage barrier inventory efforts.

</idAbs>
<idPurp>In 1991, the Washington State Legislature, working with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), organized and implemented a fish passage inventory on Washington State highways. The purpose of the inventory is to document fish passage problems located at state highway stream crossings and to prioritize the correction of these fish passage barriers. The data are also used to track where inventory efforts have occurred. This feature class can be used to query for a variety of WSDOT inventory features, fish use, and barrier status, among other things.</idPurp>

<suppInfo>These data are collected under the auspices of the Fish Passage Barrier and Surface Water Diversion Screening Assessment and Prioritization Manual (WDFW, 2009). This manual is available in PDF format at http://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/00061/. Detailed descriptions and definitions for the attributes contained in this dataset may be found in the manual. Additionally, the manual explains the fish passage barrier assessment process and what constitutes a barrier for selected feature types. This dataset contains features fitted with fishways to provide fish passage. When equipped with a fishway, the feature inherits the barrier status of the fishway (i.e. if the fishway is passable the feature is passable).</suppInfo>
