Every year, WSDOT performs its pavement condition survey using an automated pavement condition vehicle to survey the outside lane (usually the lane in the most serious condition) of all state roads in one direction, and divided roads in both directions. The pavement survey vehicle travels at highway speeds and collects data through the use of high-resolution digital imaging and laser sensors. Every year the results of the statewide pavement survey are summarized into categories of very good, good, fair, poor, and very-poor condition. \nSections are categorized only if they have been fully evaluated for condition, otherwise they are shown as black segments indicating that they were not driven, under construction, or not rated. This service is maintained by the WSDOT Transportation Data and GIS Office.
