Description: Point file of all incorporated cities in the state of Washington. Points were taken from the main polygon for each incorporated entity shown in the City Limits of Washington State data set.
Description: Polygons depict the boundaries of Washington State's incorporated municipalities, as recorded by the Washington State Office of Financial Management. Attributes include city names as provided by the Washington State Office of Financial Management, and Federal Information Processing Standard codes(FIPS) as provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Washington State Office of Financial Management provided FIPS codes for cities incorporated after the National Institute of Standards and Technology's FIPS code publication date. GNIS (Geographic Name Information System) codes provided by the Washington State Department of Revenue have been included for this quarter. The calendar date shown by Time_Period_Of_Content is the date of annexation approval and certification by the Washington State Office of Financial Management. Description: Polygons represent the Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs). RTPOs are responsible for transportation planning, growth management compliance within their jurisdictions, and the development and adoption of regional transportation plans. The creation of RTPOs was mandated by the Growth Management Act of 1990 and is codified in state law as RCW 36.70a.

Description: Polygons represent the Metropolitan Planning Areas (MPAs) for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). The establishment of a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is mandated by 23 CFR § 450.310. MPOs are required by federal regulations for each highway urbanized area (population 50,000 or more) and are responsible for transportation planning within the MPA boundary. MPO and MPA boundaries are adjusted after each decennial US Census. Minor adjustments are sometimes made to MPA boundaries between decennial reviews.

Description: Polygons represent the Transportation Management Areas (TMA's). TMAs are responsible for transportation planning, growth management compliance within their jurisdictions, and the development and adoption of regional transportation plans. The Code of Federal Regulations (23 CFR Part 450 Subpart C) requires the establishment of TMAs in urban areas with a population of 200,000 or more. The boundaries are updated after each decennial US Census.
